We understand that parents have many options when it comes to martial arts training.  We would like help define why Jiu Jitsu is the best possible option for your child’s time and your money.  You may have already experienced the following issues that you had with your child’s previous martial arts training:

1. Started off great, but lost interest after a while.
2. Lack of practical application had you wondering if anything they are learning even works.
3. Child began making excuses as to why they could not go to class (fights, crying, etc…).
4. Instructor seemed more interested in charging for new belts and tests then teaching.
5. Belts were given out with little regard given to what the child knows.

Some or all of the above is true I am sure. The simple truth is this most forms of martial arts are watered down version of what they were intend to be.  Concerns about liability (although valid) have crippled the practical application that is necessary for a practitioner of any martial art to excel.  Students in many cases gain a false sense of confidence in themselves due the fact that they have spent countless hours kicking and punching the air and not because they know what happens when they execute a move.

So let’s discuss the logic behind why Jiu Jitsu is the right solution for your child and how Relson Gracie Academy is the best place for you and your child.

Monotony - Children shy away from these other forms because they cannot understand why kicking and punching the air is needed.  This makes perfect sense, would you believe that you were spending your time effectively if you had to do the same thing over and over without knowing that it was ever going to work?  Soldiers are not sent to war after they learn how to hold and aim a gun, they must shot it to understand how you react to the event.  Spending thousand of hours fighting the air is not logical or effective.

The day your child learns a technique at Relson Gracie Academy they will apply it then.  They will understand why they are doing it, how it works, and what happens when they apply it.  They will be instructed on how to safely apply the technique and the responsibility that is required of them.  Our students are seldom bored, always learning, and chomping at the bit to get back to class.

Belts - This is a sore subject for us and we will do our best to not be too harsh in our criticisms.  Belts are earned at the Relson Gracie Colorado, they are not issued based on time, contracts, or the need to keep someone interested in Jiu Jitsu.  Our students remain interested because the content of the instruction and not because of a false belief based on a meaningless promotion.  When our students are promoted they know they earned it and more importantly, they are able to demonstrate it.

Self Defense - Can your child defend themselves?  This is a fundamental question that has only one correct answer.  If the answer is “I do not know”,  “I hope so”, or “They had better, we have been paying $$$ for the past # of years” then you may want to reevaluate how you are spending your child’s time and your money.  Facts are almost all fights that kids will ever be in end up on the ground (regardless of training).  Is your child prepared for real life altercations, or are they prepared for a tournament where the rules dictate how a fight happens?  At Relson Gracie academy we teach the fundamentals of stand up self defense and all that the Relson Gracie system has to offer on the ground.  Once your child gains the confidence that comes with knowing they can defend themselves, they will spend less time worrying about being bullied and more time enjoying being a child.
