Javier’s seminar was awesome!

Special thanks to Javier Vazquez!!
For those of you who missed it… Javier Vazquez joined Team Relson Gracie Colorado this past weekend and put on an awesome seminar. We appreciate Javier taking the time away from his family and academy to train with us. We look forward to seeing Javier again soon.

Coach Wes recieves his Purple Belt

We are very proud to announce that teammate and Coach Wes Glassmeyer was promoted to Purple Belt earlier this month. For anyone who has ever trained in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu you understand how hard this is to achieve. Wes has dedicated himself to the Gracie lifestyle and we are proud to have him as a leader in the RGA family. Congratulations Wes!! Keep up the hard work.

Training leg locks safely

Knee locks, ankle locks, toe holds, and heel hooks.

This is a very hot area under discussion in terms of use, safety, when and with whom to use them on. I have read lots of articles and blogs that are strongly for training with them and some against them. As I see it, they are part of the grappling world, and learning how to use them also trains a person how to defend against them.

With the growing demand of people seeking out Brazilian jiu jitsu as a form of self defense, fitness or just looking for something fun to do. Many do not know of the rich history of how Brazilian jiu jitsu found its way to the united states. This is a great video of the pioneers of the art and the late Grandmaster Helio Gracie.

The meaning of OSS related to Jiu jitsu

pronounced “Ohws”

The famous “OSS” has many origins. The first definition of “OSS” as an abbrevition for Onegai Shimasu, which translates into a request, a solicitation, an invitation like “please”, “if you may” or “with your permission”, much used when inviting a partner to train.

The second definition of “OSS”, also known as “ossu” ( it doesn’t matter how you spell it in English), means Oshi Shinobu, which conveys the idea (the literal translation has nothing to do with the context) of “persevering when pushed”, or in other words, never give up, have determination, grit and withstand the most arduous of training. Carrying on without giving up, under all kinds of pressure – that’s the idea of inner strength so common in Asian culture.

Fight to Win TOC 10 Jiu Jitsu Championship team results!

Earlier this month we had a small group of competitors step on the mat and represent Relson Gracie Colorado in the Fight to Win Tournament of Champions 10. Proudly 90% of our competitors placed in their respective divisions; the majority brought home the Gold!! I’m very proud of the results, with about 10 competitors we took 8th place! Next tournament lets push for at least 30 competitors and see what the results are. Keep up the hard work as I look forward to our team building on this success at the next competition.

Train Smart, Train Safe, Train Gracie Jiu jitsu… The Right Way!

INJURIES AND TRAINING

Gracie Jiu Jitsu is called a gentle art and if you haven’t experience that or get injured a lot you may want to look at how you train and who you train with. Seriously if you are injured, you are off the mat and not progressing and that just sucks.

Building a better community, one grappler at a time

By Chris Ferguson

As young students tangle and contort on a floor of wall-to-wall mats, jiu-jitsu instructor Steve Hordinski watches and gently corrects the young combatants.

Hordinski, owner of Relson Gracie Colorado, is in the business of molding youngsters into more confident people, one technique at a time.

Special thanks to Jim Hannan and Jen Sutingo for coming out to train with us, it was a real pleasure having the two of you out here. If anyone is interested in learning REAL Gracie Jiu jitsu, sign up for 2 free classes and see if Gracie Jiu jitsu is right for you!

The water is purest closest to the spring! Its a honor to have Master Relson Gracie as my teacher and friend. Special shout out to Ron from Fight Jobs… Thanks for everything my friend. Lastly but most important, Im very thankful to all my students and friends on the mat… I love you all

Professor Steve Hordinski

It’s going to be a exciting time for RGA in 2012. We have alot of momentum coming into the New Year and a lot of new faces are stepping onto the mat for the first time. We would like to welcome you all to the team and family. To everyone who has been with us from the begining, this would never be possible without you. We will continue to grow and inspire our students to be the best they can be on and off the mats!
