Special thanks to Javier Vazquez!!
For those of you who missed it… Javier Vazquez joined Team Relson Gracie Colorado this past weekend and put on an awesome seminar. We appreciate Javier taking the time away from his family and academy to train with us. We look forward to seeing Javier again soon.
We are very proud to announce that teammate and Coach Wes Glassmeyer was promoted to Purple Belt earlier this month. For anyone who has ever trained in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu you understand how hard this is to achieve. Wes has dedicated himself to the Gracie lifestyle and we are proud to have him as a leader in the RGA family. Congratulations Wes!! Keep up the hard work.
Knee locks, ankle locks, toe holds, and heel hooks.
This is a very hot area under discussion in terms of use, safety, when and with whom to use them on. I have read lots of articles and blogs that are strongly for training with them and some against them. As I see it, they are part of the grappling world, and learning how to use them also trains a person how to defend against them.
Reminder….. The Javier Vazquez Seminar is NEXT Saturday May 12, 2012!! Get signed up today, this is an event you don’t want to miss!

At the end of last month, Jason Spallek and I traveled to Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas to teach Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. It was an honor to be on the mat with the soldiers and share some techniques with them. We had a great experience meeting and training with everyone. Our American soldiers truly are some of the finest people this country has to offer.
UFC vet Javier “Showtime” Vazquez will be back on our mat next month, do not miss this opportunity to learn from one of the best in the business!
Team Relson Gracie is set to compete again. Come support us on April 28, 2012 as we compete for the NAGA Colorado Grappling Championship.
Last month we had a small group head out to California to compete in the pan ams. For those of who are new to the academy or have no idea what I’m talking about, the pan ams is one of the toughest competitions next to the world championships… it’s no joke!

This is an amazing opportunity to learn from Master Relson Gracie, 22 year undefeated Brazilian National Champion! Following the seminar we will be conducting promotions, its going to be a great time. For those of you who have attended a Relson seminar in the past, you know what I mean. See YOU on the mat!!!
With the growing demand of people seeking out Brazilian jiu jitsu as a form of self defense, fitness or just looking for something fun to do. Many do not know of the rich history of how Brazilian jiu jitsu found its way to the united states. This is a great video of the pioneers of the art and the late Grandmaster Helio Gracie.
Earlier this month we had a small group of competitors step on the mat and represent Relson Gracie Colorado in the Fight to Win Tournament of Champions 10. Proudly 90% of our competitors placed in their respective divisions; the majority brought home the Gold!! I’m very proud of the results, with about 10 competitors we took 8th place! Next tournament lets push for at least 30 competitors and see what the results are. Keep up the hard work as I look forward to our team building on this success at the next competition.
INJURIES AND TRAINING
Gracie Jiu Jitsu is called a gentle art and if you haven’t experience that or get injured a lot you may want to look at how you train and who you train with. Seriously if you are injured, you are off the mat and not progressing and that just sucks.
